Hotel itself is lovely and rooms are lovely and clean
I booked Barberstown Castle as a treat for my partners 40th Birthday, as a young couple we enjoy having a nice meal and relaxing in a bar with some entertainment. On both Booked.net and Barberstown Castles website, they both said that there was live entertainment on the weekends. What they didn't say was that the live entertainment was someone playing a piano in a different room and that it finished at 11.30, which meant we were sitting there on our own in a bar with nothing happening. Website should have also stated the hotel bar was the same size of our bedroom, it was very small, very dark and seats were very uncomfortable, I do appreciate that it is a bar in a castle and it was fitting in with surroundings, we found sitting in the bar very uncomfortable and boring. If we had of known that the 'Live entertainment' was a piano playing in another room finishing at 11.30pm, I definitely would not have booked this hotel. We were completely disillusioned by this statement and found for the price that we paid for one nights stay that this live entertainment was not acceptable. The restaurant was also very expensive, in fact nothing about this hotel was cheap and considering the current climate, this hotel was booked with high expectations for the price we were paying. €250 per room and €170 for meal and wine is a lot of money for one night in a 4 star hotel, considering we got the cheapest wine on the menu and then to sit in a bar with no entertainment is not acceptable. We spoke to Manager on duty Sat night and asked to see General Manager on Sun but nothing happened. Would not recommend to anyone

Appreciated my time here. The location was stunning, very close to other decent eateries, all attraction from Kildare Village to Irish stud and the restaurant. Also, it was 20 minutes walk away from Straffan Butterfly Farm which I wanted to visit. The bar was pleasant and food they serve is reasonably priced!

Unexpected kindness in a castle
The staff were really good during an unexpected emergency. They quickly arranged transportation and even got us a late meal after a long night.
The weather was quite rainy, which hindered our exploration of the beautiful grounds.

The ambiance of the castle was fine, with
Gorgeous period features. The food was excellent, but the lack of an accessible bar in the main hotel building was a bit inconvenient.

Charming Stay with Room for Improvement
Enjoyed a peaceful night in a beautifully decorated double room. Beds were comfy, but noise from a wedding nearby disrupted my rest. The dining experience was good. The meals were exquisite, though service was a bit slow amidst staff chatter. Remember to check room amenities upon arrival for a smoother stay.

We recently celebrated our anniversary at this fine castle and it surpassed my expectations. The spacious double room with a four-poster bed was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Breakfast was a highlight with fresh pastries and a delicious full irish that set us up for the day.
